Christmas, Part I

This year we headed to Ft. Worth for Christmas. Blake's brother, Chris, and my sister-in-law, Kari, just had a baby three weeks ago, so we decided to do Christmas at their house this year so that they wouldn't have to travel. They were kind enough to open up their home for all of the Christmas chaos and we all had a blast. Beckett had so much fun playing with their boys, who are ages 2 and 4. It was so much fun to watch them all play together.

Sporting his new Elmo slippers
from Grandma and Grandpa.

I got some cuddle time with my sweet niece, Campbell.

The boys got a pretty neat tent from Santa.

The dogs "bunk-bedding it" on the couch.

Daddy and Beckett snuggled up in the OSU blanket that Grandma made.

Beckett got this awesome Harley from Grandma and Grandpa.

Watching Curious George while I was trying to take the picture.

Giving Campbell kisses. Campbell looks a
little worried and I can't blame her.

SC State Fair

The day after the wedding, my mom got tickets for all of the family to go to the SC State Fair. A lot of our family came from out of town (Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana), so it was fun for us all to be able to hang out together. Chad's family is from Indiana, so I don't think they have ever seen anything like the SC State Fair. Thankfully, Chad and Serah had already signed the wedding license, so they're all stuck now ;)

The best part of the fair: watching the ducklings
slide down the water slide

Gamecocks!! There was a lot of
cock-a-doodle-dooing in this building

Beckett and Kaki probably rode the Carousel about 15 times

The gang entering the fairgrounds

Daddy, Beckett, and Seth enjoying the race cars

Can't go wrong with a bucket of fair fries

Elizabeth and Beckett riding the train

Aunt Linda introducing Beckett to an elephant ear.
She quickly became his best friend.

Then she let him lick the powdered sugar. I think she
safely earned her title as his Great-Great-Aunt Linda.

20/21 Months

I think that I forgot to post a 20 month post, so this is my 20/21 month post and possibly the 22 month post as well. I know that none of you care about monthly milestones, but like I've said before, this is my lazy way of keeping up with life.

What have you been up to?

Well, to start, the communication problems have improved greatly. You are finally beginning to tell us what you want/need. You'll repeat ANYTHING that you hear and often surprise us with new words that you've learned that we didn't realize you knew how to say. Your favorite words and phrases are "I stuck", "basketball" and "bicycle" (both pronounced icicle), and "no yet" (not yet).

You make trains out of all of your toys.
You finally got a train set for Christmas  :)

You have a nightly routine of turning out the lights. After you brush your teeth, we let you turn out both bathroom lights, both hall lights and your bedroom light. You've been a champ at turning them all out, but when we get to your bedroom light, you pretend like your finger is limp or you circle your finger around the light switch managing to avoid the light switch.

Playing with your cousin's camera

You like to tattle on the dog when she tries to eat or food. You yell at her and say "No, Karsten" even if she isn't anywhere near you because you know I'll yell at her from the other room if I hear you complain. Poor dog...Also, if she has anything she isn't supposed to have, you point at her and loudly repeat "uh oh" until I come investigate the problem.

Daddy has taught you the Tim the Tool Man phrase "Arr, Arr, Arr" that must be used anytime you enter his he-man garage.

You mimic everything you see on television which is very scary. We watched the Miss America pageant while Daddy was at work. All of a sudden, while they were announcing the Top 10 you turned around and started mimicking the girls. After each name was called, you turned around with your hands on your face and ran over and gave me a hug, exactly like they were doing on tv. I couldn't resist snapping a quick picture. I decided that it was bedtime after you started mimicking the ballet routines.

You can flirt your way into free ice cream at any restaurant that we go to. You've learned to flirt with the waitresses/cashiers and they always ask if they can give you some ice cream. It happens quite often and they all warn me that I'm going to be in trouble when you grow up. I'm aware of that...

You can now count to 8 pretty well. We've been working on your colors lately, but those seem a bit more challenging.

Watching the basketball game with Grandma and Grandpa

You love to read books and have a few books to which you know every animal sound in the book. You would rather read to me now than have me read to you. You love to spell words and anytime you see letters on a piece of paper, a sign, or a wall, you point and start spelling. You recognize that letters are letters but do not know the name of each letter. For example, if you see "Beckett" written on a piece of paper, you point to each letter and say "o, e, t, c, d.....". It's so cute because you are really proud of yourself for "reading".

Reading Daddy a book while he was sick
When you get excited about something you shout "woohoo" or "yay"!

Your favorite songs at the moment are Jingle Bells, Little Teapot, and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Your favorite foods at the moment are peanuts, raisins/craisins, dried fruit, and anything sweet. I'm afraid that you inherited your mother's sweet tooth.

You absolutely love hanging out with your grandparents. You cry every time Grandma and Grandpa leave without taking you home with them. You also love when Kaki and Grandaddy come to visit. You usually know exactly who we are picking up from the airport and point to them as soon as you see them through the glass security doors. As soon as they exit the doors you sprint to them. It's so sweet and I think they like it, too.

Sweet cuddles are rare at our house

#1 Elmo Fan

What kid doesn't love Elmo? Beckett doesn't really even watch much Sesame Street, but he's always been drawn to Elmo. He normally ignores the rest of Sesame Street, but his ears perk up and he drops what he's doing when Elmo comes on. So, for Christmas, we gave him some Elmo pjs and his Grandma and Grandpa gave him slippers. How cute is this?
