SC Surprise

In March, my mom planned a trip for Beckett and me to surprise my Dad for his birthday. Blake was gone during March Madness, so we picked up and headed to South Carolina.

We had a snow storm in Oklahoma the day before we left.
We were ready for some warmer weather!

Birthday cupcakes for Grandaddy's birthday.

Grandaddy and Beckett had so much fun together.

Uncle Stephen raced Beckett on his motorcycle...with his car.
Redneck accident waiting to happen.

Beckett tried boiled peanuts for the first time and actually liked them
(proud Momma here) and slept in a big boy bed for the first time.

We visited the zoo with Aunt Serah and Kaki.

Then, our friend Sarah visited and we went to the zoo again.

Aunt Serah and Uncle Chad got a new black lab. She is so fun much fun.
They also started breeding Golden Retrievers. So cute!

Aunt Serah and Uncle Chad also have a pretty big fish pond. They let you
and Grandaddy feed the fish and use the net to clean it out.
You thought you were pretty special.

It was so much fun having the whole family together.

Easter 2014

We had a busy Easter. We attended church in the morning and Blake and I helped with the kids. I snapped a few quick pictures of these cuties in their Easter attire. After church, we went over to Blake's Aunt's house and spent time with some family members that we don't get to see very often. We had a great time and enjoyed a fun Easter egg hunt. Beckett has some really great older cousins who are so sweet to him.

Minion Misunderstandings and Cake Chaos

So, here's a funny story. I still don't find it funny, but maybe one day I will. Beckett loves the minions from Despicable Me. Does he love the movie? No. Just the minions. I'm not sure how this all started, but my brother won a big stuffed minion from the fair about a year and a half ago. Beckett really enjoyed playing with it and carrying it around the house. Then, my mom bought him minion underwear for Christmas (I'm not going to lie, we have had so many laughs over this underwear. It's funny to walk around the house with those two little eyeballs on his bum staring me down...see pic below).

Since the minion undies are his fave (he loves them even more than the Thomas underwear), I promised him that after he was finished potty training, we would have a "potty party" and make him a minion cake or cupcakes. The boy doesn't forget anything, so I should have known that he was going to hold me to that. So...I set myself up for that one. And yes, we are finished potty training and I was planning to have a minion cake...well, one day.

His birthday came and went and there was no minion cake. I didn't realize that this was what he was expecting for his birthday cake. We originally had our community group on the day of his birthday, and since our Sundays are usually packed, I was going to just swing by and pick up a funky birthday cake from Walmart and call it done. Our community group got cancelled for the night, and it was cold and rainy, so we just decided to bake the brownies that I had in the pantry and cut it to look like chocolate cake. All good parents say "*gasp*...lame." But that's not the worst part. I didn't realize that the brownies were actually mini muffins, so that threw the cake idea out the window. Still not the worst part. We thought we had left over birthday candles from last year, but of course, we didn't. So, I found a tea light candle and set it on top of the mini brownie and we sang happy birthday with guilt. As I tucked him in, he let me know that all he wanted for his birthday was a minion cake (with one eye) and that we gave him cake, but without the minions. He doesn't usually ask for much, so I really did feel guilty. He was so disappointed and just kept saying "I really really wanted a minion cake, but I didn't get it. Not this time." *Cue well deserved mom guilt*

I didn't plan to be one of those moms who make their kids birthday cakes (I have nothing but total respect for them, and both my mom and Blake's mom were great at it). I didn't want to be that mom because it's too much work for a non-creative mother. However, that night after I listened to his sob story, I told Blake that I had to get up early to run to the grocery store for all of the supplies for a minion cake. I couldn't live with the guilt, so I threw together a cake so that we could have a real birthday celebration that night. Whew. Motherhood card saved, at least for the moment.

Needless to say, his birthday party is coming up and I haven't decided whether or not I will buy his cake or try to make it myself.

Birthday Shenanigans

We had a pretty eventful day, considering that his birthday party will not be until next month. We have delayed the party until my parents can make it out in May. Beckett doesn't mind extending his birthday celebrations for an entire month. Although, I can already see that it will probably cause some confusion. It will be difficult explaining that to him that he isn't turning another year older (4) at his birthday party, and that we are still celebrating the same birthday from April.

On his birthday, we got up, opened a few presents (a basketball goal and a Thomas the Train bubble blower), and headed to church. He says that his class sang Happy Birthday to him at church. After church, we headed to an ORU baseball game where they were giving away free ice cream. It was a little chilly out, so we hung out in an empty booth inside of the press box.

Happy 3rd Birthday

It's been a busy week. Someone in this house turned 3 years old. Happy birthday, sweet boy. Life with you has been so much fun! There is never a dull moment and you have added so much excitement to our lives. We are blessed to be your parents.

A Day Out With Thomas

Last September, Thomas the Tank Engine came into town and Grandma and Grandpa thought it would be fun to take Beckett. He absolutely loved it and still includes it in his night time prayers (and even meal blessings) every single night.

March Madness

In honor of March Madness, here's a cute picture that I just found from last year. Go ORU!
